How Does Cloud Web Hosting Function?

What is cloud hosting indeed? The word 'cloud' appears to be very modish in today's computing, Internet and hosting phraseology. In spite of that, just a select few in fact are familiar with what cloud hosting is. Perhaps it is a good idea to educate yourself about cloud hosting services. To render a very long story brief, we will first notify you about what cloud hosting is not.

1. Cloud Hosting is Not Confined to a Remote Disk Storage Solely.

1. Offering a remote disk storage solution, which involves one disk storage tool for all customers, does not convert any particular web hosting service provider into a real cloud hosting firm.

The cPanel hosting companies dub the ability to provide remote disk storage solutions a cloud hosting solution. Until now there is nothing wrong with the cloud labeling, but... we are talking about web hosting solutions, not remote disk storage solutions for individual or business purposes. There's invariably one "but", isn't there? It's not sufficient to dub a shared hosting solution, driven by a one-single-server hosting environment, exactly like cPanel, a "cloud hosting" solution. This is so because the other pieces of the whole hosting platform must be functioning in precisely the same manner - this does not relate only to the remote data storage. The other services entailed in the whole web hosting procedure also have to be remote, isolated and "clouded". And that's quite hard. Very few web hosting vendors can actually attain it.

2. It Entails Domains, E-mail Aliases, Databases, FTPs, Hosting CPs, etc.

Cloud hosting is not confined to a remote disk storage only. We are talking about a hosting service, serving numerous domain names, web pages, mail addresses, and so on, are we not?

To call a web hosting service a "cloud hosting" one calls for a lot more than distributing plainly remote disk storage mounts (or probably physical servers). The mail server(s) must be dedicated only to the e-mail related services. Doing nothing else than these specific assignments. There might be only one single or maybe a whole set of e-mail servers, determined by the total load produced. To have a genuine cloud hosting solution, the remote database servers should be working as one, regardless of their real quantity. Performing nothing different. The same is valid for the clients' hosting Control Panels, the File Transfer Protocol, etc.

3. There are Cloud Domain Servers (DNSs) too.

The DNSs (Domain Name Servers) of an actual cloud hosting company will support numerous datacenter facility sites on multiple continents.

Here's an illustration of a Domain Name Server of an authentic cloud hosting services provider:

dns1.host-23.com

dns2.host-23.com

If such a Domain Name Server is offered by your web hosting distributor, it's not a sure thing that there is a cloud web hosting platform in use, but you can absolutely be confident when you discern a Domain Name Server like the one below:

dns658.hostgator.com

dns659.hostgator.com

that there isn't any cloud web hosting platform. This sort of DNS merely shows that the web hosting environment in use is one-single-server based. Maybe it's cPanel. cPanel is a single-server hosting platform and holds a market share of more than ninety eight percent. In cPanel's case, one physical server handles all hosting services (web, e-mail, DNS, databases, FTP, Control Panel(s), web site files, etc.).

Remote File Storage - The Warped Characterization of Cloud Hosting.

So, a cloud hosting solution is not limited solely to a remote file storage service, as a lot of web hosting distributors wish it was. Unluckily for them, if that was the case, the majority of the file web hosting distributors would have been classified as cloud web hosting ones long ago! They are not classified as such, as they plainly deliver file web hosting solutions, not cloud web hosting solutions. The file web hosting platform looks indeed very plain, when compared to the web hosting platform. The remote disk storage platform is not a cloud web hosting platform. It cannot be, since it's just one tiny constituent of the entire cloud hosting platform. There's plenty more to be discovered in the cloud web hosting platform: the web hosting CP cloud, the database clouds (MySQL, PostgreSQL), the DNS cloud, the File Transfer Protocol cloud, the electronic mail cloud and... in the upcoming future, possibly a bunch of brand new clouds we presently don't know about will show up out of nowhere.
